Ashakal Aayiram

3.5 / 5
Family DramaComedyComing of AgeRaaga would rewatch: No

Ashakal Aayiram is built around a simple but enduring Malayalam family-film question: what happens when a child’s dream is at odds with a parent’s idea of a sensible life? Kalidas Jayaram plays Ajeesh Hariharan, a young man hoping for a career in cinema, while Jayaram plays his father Hariharan, who cannot understand or support that ambition. The premise gains extra resonance because the two actors are a real-life father and son, though the film wisely keeps the attention on the fictional relationship rather than treating that casting fact as the whole attraction.
